Discovering what life is about

Which books should everyone read?

Which books should everyone read?

by James Haforlarin, Writer at Harpholarin.com (2017-present)

There a lot of books out there and I've been lucky to read some 100+ in the past 3 years.

I've learned a lot and unlearned a lot. Some books saved my life and some nearly killed me.

These five books below are the list of the books that changed my life and made me a slightly better person. I've been getting a lot of DMs lately on book suggestions and here are the top five I think you should read.

1. Meditations by Marcus Aurelius

Summary - I've heard a lot about this Marcus guy and that he was an emperor but his book blew me away. Meditations is a manual for living and loving that he wrote for himself even though he was the most powerful person on earth at his time.

It is filled with life wisdom especially on how we all have total control over our decisions. If you want to be wiser today, get this book.

2. The subtle art of not giving a fuck by Mark Manson

Summary - the book’s main message is that the path to a good life is not wanting or caring for everything in life but about focusing on your few core principles and values and giving no fuck about the rest.

The book is great, I think it's the best self help book of the decade, it contains amazing story and there's no bullshit. Mark tells you everything straight and says “fuck you” a lot.

3. Happiness trap by Russ harris

Summary - I was in a terrible quagmire when I discovered this book, had no happiness nor confidence and the book just showed the way.

Truth is the way to happiness is not chasing happiness or wealth or riches, it is the other way around, it's about not caring about happiness. It's about understanding and accepting yourself and then doing what you value even when you don't feel like. Russ shows you the truth about your thoughts, feelings, actions and happiness and how you can use that knowledge to live a good life.

4. Choose yourself by James Altucher

Summary - the whole government system and economy is rigged against you. Nobody wants you to succeed and nobody will choose you. You have to choose yourself by taking care of yourself, coming up with ideas, failing, improving and taking consistent actions.

Take it from the professor of failure himself, James has failed multiple times while he waited for others to choose him. He finally chose himself and I hope you do too.

5. How to overcome social awkwardness in 21 days by James haforlarin

Summary - It's not a must to socialize but it's a must to know how connect with people and make them like you. This book contains practical ideas on how to understand people, meet them, talk to them and behave around them so that they like you and want to be friends with you.

It's a guide I wish I had 5 years ago.

So there you go. Now which one would you read today? Comment and let me know

2. money and finance

a. RICH DAD POOR DAD[3]

if you want to learn about financial literacy then this is the best book for you.The life changing book that has been a personal finance best seller for over a decade written by author Robert T. Kiyosaki. This little book has changed the lives of many people and their perspective on money, who are in misery, not knowing how to make ends meet due to lack of financial education. The contents of this book, tells the story of a young man, who is the author himself, being brought up by his natural father the conventional way of getting a job, saving every penny, working hard and climbing the corporate ladder. At the same time, he also had a "second father" who taught him a different way to view things and how to start from scratch and build his business into an empire.

b. The Millionaire Next Door[4]

TMND is one of the best books I've ever read and will go into the elite pantheon of books I won't stop recommending. The authors showcase the real millionaires in this country -- not the celebrities or heiresses or CEOs with golden parachutes that we think of. Using comprehensive data, they reveal that true millionaires and those with true wealth, are average, unassuming people like you and me. They work hard (usually for themselves), save, invest, spend wisely, and don't try to keep up with the Joneses. The people we think of as rich are little more than living paycheck to paycheck. It's an eye-opening book that will change the way you think.

c. Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon hill

This is one of the greatest text books that I have ever read. This book has done so much for me, well I would be doing a great disservice trying to explain how great it is, purchase it and experience for yourself.

3.working and productivity

a. "The 4 Hour Work Week," by Tim Ferriss

The 4 Hour Work Week primary focus is helping you maximize your work efficiency and productivity. The goal is to cut out the clutter and accordingly help you live a more stress-free, successful lifestyle.

b. "The Seven Habits of Highly Successful People," by Stephen R Covey

I read a lot of non fiction books and this one is by far one of the best I've read in a very long time! The 7 habits can be applied in our everyday life to make it meaningful and worth living! It's not a book you just read and go on with, it's the kind of book you keep along and re-read over and over again to make sure you are progressing!

i will also suggest you more books in future .
